Open ATHENA Dissemination Event

Timely planned after the Regional Benchmarking Forum and on the eve of the Bologna Ministerial Conference, an ATHENA dissemination event took place on Wednesday, 13 May at Yerevan State University from 16-17.30.

While the Benchmarking Forum was exclusively meant for the consortium partners, the dissemination event has opened up the discussions, notably to delegates of the Bologna Ministerial Conference and other interested local stakeholders. It thus provided an opportunity for further exchange of experience in reforming higher education taking the successful-proven approach from the ATHENA project as an example for similar processes in other systems of the European Higher Education Area.

ATHENA Finance and Governance Toolkits released

In line with the capacity-building objectives of ATHENA, an important milestone of the project has been reached with the release of two ATHENA toolkits. The first is dedicated to university financial management and provides guidance to university leaders and managers on topics such as the development of resource allocation and costing models, budget planning, and income diversification.

The second toolkit focuses on university governance models across Europe. It offers mapping and benchmarking possibilities and provides detailed information on selection mechanisms for the leadership, the composition and tasks of governing bodies and elements to consider to involve external stakeholders in governance structures.

Strategic importance of HR Management underlined at final ATHENA Training Seminar

The third of three ATHENA Training Seminars took place on 10-11 February 2015 at the University of Amsterdam. This capacity building event welcomed senior managers and university leaders from ATHENA project partner institutions, national rectors’ conferences and public authorities in Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine. The focus of the event was human resources management (HRM) and staff development in universities and the role that these have to play in fostering autonomous and sustainable higher education institutions in the partner countries.
