Update on ATHENA project activities

Following the summer break, the EUA project team has news on a number of developments in the ATHENA project.

Firstly, we are pleased to announce that in July we received positive feedback on our interim progress report, which was submitted to the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency in April 2014. The feedback letter highlighted and praised the project’s policy research work and the country workshops that were organised in each of the partner countries. The project team aims to continue in this positive direction before the conclusion of the project in October 2015.

The consultation process for the Policy Roadmaps is now well underway, with several partners having already returned their feedback on the draft roadmaps. This will then be consolidated into a final draft roadmap for each partner country prior to discussions with each national delegation to be held at the training seminar in Coimbra in November.

Preparations for the second ATHENA training seminar on governance and autonomy reforms at the University of Coimbra and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra are ongoing and the EUA project team is liaising with the hosts, the University of Coimbra and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, and partner institutions to finalise both the content and the logistical details. Further details, including a draft programme, will be distributed in the coming weeks. Please note that this event is by invitation only.

With the first of the three training seminars having taken place in Helsinki in April, work has begun on the development of the institutional toolkits that will link to each of the seminars.

Finally, the EUA Funding Forum takes place on 9-10 October 2014, and we are pleased that there will be a dedicated thematic session on funding sustainability in ATHENA countries, with speakers from Armenian and Ukrainian universities. Please check the Funding Forum website after the event to find their presentations, along with those of all the other speakers. Registrations remain open until 21 September.
